Description

A live interactive IEW classes will engage your student each week. In addition, graded assignments as well as optional Minecraft activities are provided.  This class is a full writing credit. Attending live class is essential for success, however, sessions will be recorded. Classes are taught using methodology by The Institute for Excellence in Writing® by teachers certified to teach with this method. Structure and Style for Students is a level A course.

IEW’s Structure and Style® writing method will give your student’s a toolbox so that they have confidence-building tools, which lays the groundwork for a lifetime of excellent writing.  My goal is to assist your student to gain skills to confidently communicate by learning to write well, think clearly, and express themselves eloquently and persuasively.

Students reading at a 4th-6th grade level, who are new to IEW or have finished All Things Fun and Fascinating, will enjoy these incremental and effective writing lessons. While moving through Units 1-7, students will enjoy fantastic fables, amazing animals, and peculiar places. Learning how to take notes and then write from those notes, students establish a base to move onto more complex writing. Summarizing narrative stories leads into writing from pictures. In addition, they will put together mini research reports, write a letter, and compose creative essays.

Structure and Style for Students will be a live class that is interactive and enjoyable. It is not necessary to purchase the videos for this program. This is an introductory course that will give your student a firm foundation for writing. Teacher feedback will be given on a weekly basis.

Parents are required to actively participate in the homework process. Scribing for your child is appropriate but do not change their words!! During class, structure will be introduced, explained, and modeled. Tools will be provided to add style. Students will also gain knowledge of organizing as they assemble their binder on a weekly basis. Students will begin class needing parental assistance, but the goal is for them to be mostly independent by the end of the year. Assignments will need to be typed using Google docs by the student or with parental assistance.  Parents will be required to assist with organizing the student binder on a weekly basis.

WHAT IS INSTITUTE FOR EXCELLENCE IN WRITING (IEW)?
IEW is the award-winning Structure and Style Method for teaching writing. IEW helps children succeed in communicating confidently and effectively. Rather than facing a writing prompt with the dreaded “blank page,” students are taught nine structural writing models with style in each assignment. Students will develop confidence in writing while working towards independence and creativity. The IEW methods can be applied to other assignments, too. When students write consistently, they become confident, and competent.

As an experienced IEW Certified Instructor and an Online Instructor , you can trust that I will teach the Structure and Style method with integrity.
