SKrafty High School Writing Class with Classic Literature (2023/2024)

Course Structure:

Join us as we study Classic Literature together. This class is a one credit high school English credit with three main components: reading, discussion, and writing. We will read some of the greatest novels, short stories, and poems from great authors. We will engage in lively, active discussion of the reading every week. We will write multiple essays, one of them a research essaying using MLA style. Students will learn about literary terms and devices that are important to Classic literature.

Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis

Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare 

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck 

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

The Crucible by Arthur Miller

Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God by Jonathon Edwards

Description

Course Structure:

Join us for another year-long online literature and writing course for students in grades 9-12. 

Using the Socratic Method, we will have lively and tasteful discussions. During class time the teacher will bring these classics alive.  Students are required to participate and have their webcams on while attending class. 

Homework will be given to complete and will consist of reading the chosen novels, literature guides, and writing assignments that will correspond with each book. Literature guides will be provided by the teacher.  Writing instruction will be given for every assignment along with a checklist/rubric.

Class Details:

The high school literature class will meet every other week beginning on September 6th from 11:30 – 1:00 PM CST.    Microphones will be required for class.

Literature Modules and worksheets will be posted on the Skrafty EDU to print out for homework.  Your responsibility is to purchase the above books and keep all Literature Modules in a 3-ring binder for organization.

Requirements and Prerequisites

 

  • Required Textbook see class descriptions
  • Student should know the basics of building in Minecraft, and use proper Minecraft ettiquette (no griefing, etc.)
  • Students will be able to log in and begin on Thursday, September 6th
