The writing classes below are excellent introductory courses to the IEW method for students in grades 4–12 with little or no IEW writing. Students will need to be able to use a computer and also have parent help if needed. These classes are “boot camp” type class intended to give the students and parents some familiarity with the method before taking a full course. These summer classes may also be good for students who are struggling with writing. They are also helpful for Classical Conversation students who are entering Essentials in the fall.

We are also excited to offer a new Study Skills class which will help your student

We will have a live class each week, assignments, and of course Minecraft activities to go along with it.  The live class will be recorded to watch later.  These classes will be taught using methodology by The Institute for Excellence in Writing by teachers certified to teach with this method.  You can read more about this method below:

Following are the details:

SWI-A

This course is an excellent introduction to the IEW method for students in grades 4th – 6th with little or no IEW writing, SWI-A teaches key word outlines and stylistic techniques. Students use these tools while learning varied writing models: stories, reports, and inventive writing. Students must be able to sit through a 90 min class and parent involvement is required. This class is a five week introductory class and will prepare a student for the themed units. This summer class is excellent for traditional school students who need extra help in writing and for those Classical Conversation students who are entering Essentials in the fall.

SWI-B

High School Essay Intensive

This course requires at least two years of an IEW writing course.  This course with accompanying handouts provides immediate experience and inside tips toward high school essay writing, including text analysis, response-to-literature prompts, and the college application personal essay.  This course is good for 1/2 High School English Credit.

Study Skills

Students may want to study more efficiently but seldom are taught how to study. This class teaches students the three foundational cornerstones of the Victus Study Skills System as well as goal setting, time management, test taking, note taking, and reading skills. Students ultimately will study smarter, not harder.

NOTE:  Due to the grading and teaching time involved these classes have limited space.  Each Student needs to have access to an email account in order to submit papers through Google Docs.

WHEN :

Live Classes begin the week of Monday, July 30th and end the week of August 27th.

Class Times: 

SWI-A: Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:30 – 12:00 pm CST

SWI-B: Mondays and Wednesdays at 12:00 – 1:30 pm CST

High School Essay Intensive:  Mondays and Thursdays at 12:15 – 1:30 PM CST

Study Skills: Mondays and Thursdays at 10:00 – 11:00 AM CST
