Please join us for a live, interactive writing class. This theme-based class will have students writing about fascinating topics such as Mount Everest, tsunamis, Bunker Hill, the Crusades, and many more. This class covers the first seven of IEW Units. Literature suggestions are included in the book and vocabulary is covered in class. Grammar concepts are integrated with the writing instruction.
Students receive clear, consistent writing instruction with live classes, grading, and Minecraft. Each class can be used for a full writing credit. Your student will have a live class each week, assignments, and optional Minecraft activities. Writing assignments will be submitted via Google Docs. The live class will be recorded if students miss class. These classes are taught using methodology by The Institute for Excellence in Writing by a teacher certified to teach with this method. Students receive personalized feedback and a grade for every assignment.
IEW’s Structure and Style® writing method will give your student’s a toolbox so that they have confidence-building tools, which lays the groundwork for a lifetime of excellent writing. My goal is to assist your student to gain skills to confidently communicate by learning to write well, think clearly, and express themselves eloquently and persuasively.
Discoveries in Writing is a level A IEW course recommended for beginning writers, those new to IEW, or those with IEW experience in 4th – 5th grade. This is a brand new IEW class.
Students are encouraged to actively participate by answering questions and presenting stories via microphone and webcam. They will see and hear each other as they learn, which provides a classroom feel. Students learn how to take notes, write from their notes, and add their own style.
No previous writing experience is necessary for this class. While assignments are to be typed using Google docs by the student, parental assistance is acceptable but do not change their words!
Students require a microphone and webcam for live class. This class has an 8-student minimum but space is limited to provide a more personal experience. Parents should be present with younger students and are always welcome in class. Parental involvement is required at this level.

This course is a two semester class using the required textbook Discoveries in Writing (Student Book).
When
This class will begin on Tuesday, August 27th from 11 AM to 12:15 PM CST and will end Tuesday, May 6th.
