Weather Forecasting With a Focus on Aviation Meteorology

This class will delve into weather forecasting with a distinct focus on aviation meteorology. This will be an interactive course that will use real-world forecasting products such as surface charts, graphical model data, radar, and satellite products to forecast weather. The main resource will be provided for the students for use. The Air Force technical manual TN 98-002 will be used for classroom guidance with hands on explanation of the forecast techniques found in the manual. It will be a fun and engaging way to learn about weather forecasting. The focus of this class will be on specific areas of forecasting such as clouds, fog, rain, snow, thunderstorms, surface winds, jet streams, fronts, synoptic scale analysis, temperature forecasting, turbulence, icing, RADAR, and Satellite. The desire of the teacher is to engage the students with questions and dialogue to help them further learn the material and answer questions. There will be no assigned homework in this class and the teaching style will be lecture via TN 98-002 and powerpoint material with a few questions asked of the students.

The TN 98-002 was used in training special operators weather. This is a great technical resource for weather forecasting.

This course is a 14-lesson (14 Weeks) course.

When

This class will meet on Monday from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm CST beginning on Thursday, September 8 and will be ending on Thursday, December 15th. Thanksgiving Day will be off no class.
