By Laura Ingalls Wilder

Welcome to the On the Banks of Plum Creek class. I am excited to read this book with you.Let’s have some fun!

  • Please read the first six chapters in your book.

The following are the chapters we are reading this week read by a lady from Canada.

Chapter 1: The Door in the Ground

Did you know that this story is based on Laura Ingalls Wilders childhood? Today you can visit the site of the little dugout house on the banks of Plum Creek in Walnut Grove, Minnesota. The dugout and stable are no longer there but this will give you an Idea of where laura and her family were living during this book. Take a look.

Chapter 2: The House the Ground

Did you know you can tour a museum that shows you all of the different types of homes that Laura lived in? It’s in DeSmet, South Dakota. Pay attention to the model of the dugout hose so you can see what type of house they lived in by Plum Creek.

Here’s a tour of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Homestead museum in South Dakota. The Sod house or dugout the Ingalls lived in would have been similar to the one at this museum.

Chapter 3: Flags and Rushes

Chapter 4: Deep Water

Chapter 5: Strange Animal

This week Laura encountered a badger down by Plum Creek. Have you ever seen a badger? Here is a video featuring a tame zoo-kept badger. Check it out.
