Go ahead and pack your bags!  Prepare for the trip of a lifetime… PASSPORTS INCLUDED!

During this 11 week class (77 days), we will be visiting top destination spots around the globe, on all 7 continents, and we will be doing this using the book series “Where Is” and “What Is” (a branch of the “Who Was” series). This series of books brings a lot of powerful information on people, places, and events to children in a straightforward way. These books appeal to both boys and girls and are designed for seasoned readers and reluctant readers alike!

Before our adventure starts, I will give each learner a passport to make and every week I will post a printable for learners to “stamp” their passports. Each week I will also send a packet of educational printables that include a lesson plan, a vocabulary list, a crossword puzzle, a word search, a sheet of flash cards, and recipe for a food dish relating to the location.

Each week our book club will meet to discuss the book we read during the previous week (we will not read books in class). Learners will use their creativity each week to plan their agendas at each location and bring a collage board or digital presentation of what they found interesting “at” each destination and/or learners can make the recipes supplied and bring examples (the item or pictures) to class to share. Projects will be shared during the class meeting time, which will encourage public speaking, allowing learners to talk to each other and make friends!

Our first class will be an introductory class, where we will make our passports, set the structure of future club meetings, and get to know each other before we set off on our amazing vacation.

*Beyond the reading of the book, learners are asked to make a “scrapbook” presentation each week of the location we are reading about and/or make the associated recipe. Learners will be encouraged to imagine they are visiting each location and plan their trip… what they would like to see, places they’d like to eat, things they learned… and then make a “scrapbook” of their trip. This can be done on a project board or digitally. Examples will be posted in the classroom, prior to our first class.
