Students that can competently write a paragraph are invited to join this class to learn more about essays. Students will learn to write detailed and focused thesis statements, write an engaging introductory paragraph, write well structured body paragraphs, write a concluding paragraph that will fulfill the reader. Students will present in class on a regular basis. Students should have a competent knowledge of structure and style. Geared to Grade 8-12
This class is taught using multiple methodologies including those from The Institute for Excellence in Writing by a teacher certified to teach this method and The Lost Tools of Writing as well as others. Learning advanced writing , students will hone their essay skills focusing on thesis statements, essay organization, and transitions through a variety of essay styles such as descriptive, personal, narrative, and persuasive. This course requires students to have at least two years of experience with IEW at level B or C. Combine this class with a live Fix-it course to provide a more complete experience. This class may also be used as a speech credit.
Number of students will be limited for this class to allow more personal interaction as well as the opportunity for presentations.
This course will be a two semester class using Writing Success: Essential Writing Skills in addition to the Student Resource Packet. Each student is required to purchase a copy of the student book. The Student Resource Packet is an ebook that must be printed or it may be purchased from IEW. The student must have a physical copy of the books.

This class will begin on Monday, September 14th from 10:45am – 12:15pm CST and will end Monday, April 26th. Class will meet Live every week to allow for extra time to complete assignments.
