UPDATE – Orientation for IEW courses will take place at TBD. A link will be provided via email and in the Important Information section of this course. The session will be recorded and placed in the Important Information section if you are unable to make the live session, but you MUST watch before attending your first class session.

Description

A live interactive IEW classes will engage your student each week. Graded assignments as well as optional Minecraft activities are also provided.  This class can be used for a full writing credit. Attending live class is essential for success, however, sessions will be recorded. Classes are taught using methodology by The Institute for Excellence in Writing® by teachers certified to teach with this method. All Things Fun & Fascinating is a level A course.

IEW’s Structure and Style® writing method will give your student’s a toolbox so that they have confidence-building tools, which lays the groundwork for a lifetime of excellent writing. My goal is to assist your student to gain skills to confidently communicate by learning to write well, think clearly, and express themselves eloquently and persuasively.

This is my favorite class to teach! All Things Fun and Fascinating is an interactive, introductory class with low-pressure, that is designed for mature 3rd graders to 5th graders or older students who have learning differences. This is a gentle paced course that introduces students to the structure and style method while learning about humorous characters, fascinating creatures, and exciting events.

Students are encouraged to actively participate by answering questions and presenting stories via microphone and webcam.  They will see and hear each other as they learn, which provides a classroom feel. Students learn how to take notes, write from their notes, and add their own style.

No previous writing experience is necessary for this class. While assignments are to be typed using Google docs by the student,  parental assistance is acceptable but do not change their words!

Students require a microphone and webcam for live class.  This class has an 8-student minimum but space is limited to provide a more personal experience.  Parents should be present with younger students and are always welcome in class. Parental involvement is required at this level.

Students will earn badges as they complete quizzes and a Diamond Armor badge when the class is completed.

PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Parents are the primary educators. WHAT IS INSTITUTE FOR EXCELLENCE IN WRITING (IEW)?
IEW is the award-winning Structure and Style Method for teaching writing. IEW helps children succeed in communicating confidently and effectively. Rather than facing a writing prompt with the dreaded “blank page,” students are taught nine structural writing models with style in each assignment. Students will develop confidence in writing while working towards independence and creativity. The IEW methods can be applied to other assignments, too. When students write consistently, they become confident, and competent.

As an experienced IEW Certified Instructor and an Online Instructor , you can trust that I will teach the Structure and Style method with integrity.
