SKrafty Field Trip: Polyface Farms in Swoope, VA

We are so excited for our next SKrafty IRL field trip!  SKrafty is going to Polyface Farms in Swoope, VA, and we want you to join us!  I read Joel Salatin’s book  Folks, This Ain’t Normal: A Farmer’s Advice for Happier Hens, Healthier People, and a Better World a few years ago and LOVE it.  It’s a great read, and I highly recommend it.  This is his family’s farm and business which will be so fun and educational to visit.

Following are the details:

Date:

Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 10:30 AM EST

Agenda:

This will be an approximately two hour walking tour of the farm, during which we will discuss as many components of the farm as we can (soil, grass, animals, individual business enterprises) and how it contributes to the farm as a whole. Currently, they have cows, pigs, meat chickens, laying hens, rabbits, lambs, ducks and baby chicks. If there is time, we will tour the gardens and processing shed, discuss our winter farming methods, talk about how they market, and talk about the current state of the industrial food system.

Cost:

$8/person
