SKrafty is run by the Syx Family from Alabama! We have a large family with 5 sons and a daughter who homeschool and also love to play Minecraft. With SKrafty we want to accomplish 2 things.
1. To create a family friendly Minecraft server with chat filters and parent moderators. We don’t want our children and yours to be unable to participate in joining and playing with friends on multiplayer servers due to bad language and other things. For the gaming side our mission is to create an awesome gaming and online community that is wholesome and awesome. This has become not only our mission but many parents that help us moderate and coach children daily.
2. Teach them with what they already love doing. One of the beauties of homeschooling is being able to integrate education with things our children love. We want to take advantage of this excitement they have to play Minecraft and mold it into an immersive learning experience.
We wanted to set up SKrafty classes to be affordable for those like us with multiple children. Our prices may seem cheap but the lesson and experience is awesome. So don’t let the cost fool you. Our EDU subscription is half off each additional child you add after the first one. Basically once you have registered the first student you can email us and we will give you a half off coupon code to enter for each additional student.
What ages do we serve?
The age level for the classes range from age 5 through high school. There is something for everyone. With our subscriptions you will get access to all of the classes, half off our birthday parties and our online summer camp.
How can it be used?
Many use SKrafty as full curriculum and many also use it to add to what they already have planned. You can pick and choose which classes you would like them to participate in and you can organize their classes on our EDU site.
Tell me about the classes.
Most all of our classes are built as self paced and never close or fill up. They are broken down by weekly lessons and include automatically graded quizzes. They earn badges as they progress through the weeks and also earn in game rewards. There is a Minecraft Adventure Build for each lesson that they do in our class servers. The builds are to further enrich the learning experience.
For example if they are going through Narnia, the server is setup so that they can be the characters in the book and they get to build in Narnia as well. If they are taking Mystery Of History and are learning about Ephesus they might have an Ephesus Theater build. They would get to walk around and virtually be in the collosseum. They can build their assignments with friends or family taking the class which also makes it a fun experience. Think of it as virtual lap book that they can navigate through 3 dimensionally. Most all of our class servers are done in creative mode. We also have live classes such as Shakespeare, Guitar, High School Science, and our Government class where we teach them the different types of governments while allowing them to also role play with the teacher in the government server. Additionally we offer IEW classes with certified IEW teachers. Note that IEW has an additional $50 fee with the subscription but is a huge savings over purchasing it outside of the subscription.
As far as the cost you have a few options. There is the monthly subscription of $24.99 which includes a $5.00 donation rank in which student get extra cosmetic perks in the game plus all I mentioned above. Donators get a special rank beside their name of JediMaster, Hulk, Spiderman, Princess or GameMaster. Alternatively, there is also a yearly subscription that gives you 2 months for free at $249.00. Just divide this number by 2 for each additional student you want to add.
If you choose to only do the classes and not donate your cost is $19.99 a month or $199 for a year. If you choose to not do the classes but would still like to help us keep SKrafty going you can be a donator for $8.00 a month and your child will get the special rank and cosmetic perks. The donations are used for our server infrastructure and maintenance, coding, and to keep SKrafty fun and kid friendly.
